Brighten Up for CAFOD Fundraising

From (very) bright outfits to face paints and wigs, St Mary’s truly brightened up in support of the Harvest campaign with CAFOD on October 13th – helping to build a brighter world! We are all too keenly aware of the suffering endured by so many around the world, and students at St Mary’s are doing what they can to live out the greatest commandment to “love thy neighbour”.

This year, we hosted the widest variety of fundraisers to date – netball tournaments, face painting, name the bear, hot chocolate sales, discos, name the Pokémon toy, to name a few. The students were wonderfully enthusiastic in their participation, with year groups coming together to promote and support each other. Some of the fundraising even began during Open Evening for prospective parents, with our CAFOD club students engaging in conversations about the campaign and what these donations can achieve. To date, students have raised £1610.63, and there are still chocolate hampers being raffled off!

This money will make a real difference to the lives of those suffering the greatest in the world. In real terms, this money could help teach over 160 children to read or supply 44 families with a supply of clean water, or even pay for 5 mobile health teams that can reach the most remote and vulnerable communities.

A special mention has to go to Mr Watson for his unbelievably yellow suit and Kermit the Frog tie, and Ruby in Year 7 for her minion costume – both were voted as Best Dressed by the CAFOD club!

Donations can still be made via the CAFOD website at https://cafod.org.uk/

God Bless,

Miss C Leslie (Teacher of RE and CAFOD club co-ordinator)
