Letter to Parents

Dear Parent(s)/Carer(s)

As the end of the first full week back at school approaches, I would like to thank you for your cooperation with the changes to routines, timings and procedures as it has helped enormously.  I have been so impressed with the pupils who have adapted quickly to everything we have asked of them and they have conducted themselves with real maturity.

May I refer you to the symptom specific advice that we sent out earlier this week and ask that you follow it closely if your child has a temperature of 37.8 or above, a new continuous cough or loses their sense of taste/smell.  Our guidelines for what you should do in this eventuality are taken from the latest Government Guidance and Public Health England advice.  As I am sure you will appreciate, we are not in a position to deviate from this or make exceptions.  We obviously want all pupils in school wherever possible but only if it is safe.  If your child does display any of the symptoms above, it is essential that you follow the advice.  Should we need to send your child home for any of the above, we will give them a letter with guidance and instructions for parents and carers as to what to do next, including links and contact numbers for specialist medical advice.

Those pupils travelling by bus have all worn their masks to and from school as it is compulsory to do so.  May I remind you that we recommend pupils wear face masks in line with local authority advice when in communal areas; we hold this recommendation under review and may need to make this compulsory in the future.  I will of course communicate this, should the position change.

Thank you so much for your patience and cooperation with the end of day collection/pick up arrangements.  We are acutely aware of how busy this can be and the congestion it can cause.  However, with the government advising that more pupils travel by car than on public transport coupled with the inability to car share during this time, we have had an inevitable increase in the volume of traffic.  Those of you who have collected children will know how many staff I have deployed to oversee this busy time and I want to inform you that I have also invited the Police to oversee what we are doing.  In the coming days and weeks I will engage with Herefordshire Council and The Highways Agency to see how they can support us in making the immediate area outside the school entrance safer for our pupils.  Their safety is, and will always be, our top priority.

It has been a busy week but a really enjoyable one too!  Your children and their approach to school make our jobs so much easier.

Have a good weekend.
