Headteacher Update June 2021

Dear Parents/Carers

Welcome back to the final stage of the summer term and I hope you had an enjoyable half-term break, the weather certainly helps, so long may it continue!

Now that Year 11 have left us, there is a little more room and space around St Mary’s, and whilst it is a little strange that they are not here and will soon be moving on, it gives us every opportunity to focus on Years 7-10 and to do as much as we can with them in these remaining weeks.

I spoke to Year 10 yesterday morning as they are now our most senior year group; they are busy preparing for exams and assessments starting next week and we went through the importance of these in our assembly. Their results should help us to identify any gaps which need to be addressed before they begin Year 11 and the lead up to their mocks.

I also spoke to Year 10 about the process of applying to be a Prefect at St Mary’s and they will hear more about this during form periods in the coming days. The closing date for this is 21st June 2021, and I would encourage Year 10 to give this careful consideration and put themselves forward for such a position of responsibility.

I will also be seeing all pupils in Years 7-9 in the coming days to think about what we want to achieve together this term and how we can prepare for the next academic year.

Transition work is in full swing as we prepare to welcome a new cohort in September – sharing of information between the Primary and Secondary sectors has probably never been so important, and we hope to do everything possible to ensure a smooth start to life at St Mary’s.

Please can I request that home tests for Covid-19 are still conducted twice a week and the results sent through to us, in order that we can continue to keep our school as safe as possible.

I look forward to updating you on all aspects of our progress in the coming weeks.

Best wishes
