Maths

Welcome to Year 7 Maths at St. Mary’s RC High

We are an enthusiastic and dedicated team of 5 maths specialists: Miss Brice, Miss Davies, Mrs Richards, Mrs Todd and Mrs Tunna.

Students enjoy 6 maths lessons per fortnight.

Students begin their studies in mixed ability groups with a focus on building a good growth mind set. Students are then set into one of 3 groups in each band; all students follow the same mastery scheme of work based on the White Rose Maths programme.

We believe that maths is for everyone! Maths lessons are carefully planned to ensure that they enable students to develop a deep understanding, confidence and competence in maths. No matter what a student’s starting point, we help build secure learning and real progress.

Students are formally assessed at the end of each term but have the opportunity to demonstrate their progress in every lesson and at home in a variety of ways including pair and group work and online quizzes and activities.

Later in KS3 students have the opportunity to take part in specialist university lectures and workshops and also compete with other schools in the UKMT mathematics challenge.

“I have enjoyed maths this year because I can understand more maths problems and the teachers are very supportive” Erika
