Wow, this half term has been really busy. For the past month I have been doing “Meet and Greets” with the year groups. We all looked at the theme of prayer. Year 7s looked at the Lord’s Prayer in a practical way, using drama activities. The purpose was to learn how we can actively live the Lord’s Prayer in our daily life.
Year 8s explored the scripture passage from Ephesians 6:10-18 (The Armour of God), and how they can apply this practically. Of course the year 8s can’t dress in armour every day, but by exploring what each piece of armour means (using a volunteer in a cardboard replica) they were able to understand how to apply it to their lives.
Year 8 Learning about “The Armour of God”.
Year 9s and 10s Learned how distraction can be used as a form of prayer. We explored this by using playing cards to build “THE HOUSE OF PRAYER” while their partner had to distract them. Once we finished our practical we investigated the scripture passage where Jesus visits Martha and Mary (Luke 10: 38-42). By the end students understood that they can pray for their distractions alongside their original intentions.
Year 10s building a “House of Prayer”.
We looked at how Jesus meditated on his own and examined why it is important to spend alone time with God and how can we do this effectively. Using meditative strategies the students learned how to relax their bodies and clear their minds in order to focus on Christ. Although many year 11s said they struggled with this, they also felt it was important.
