6th January 2015

Dear Parents and Carers,

The trip to ‘The Christmas Truce’ on Friday January 9th is rapidly approaching. On the day of the trip, the coach will be leaving St Mary’s at 16.30 prompt. Please note that we will not be able to wait for latecomers.  While we do not ask pupils to wear school uniform for this trip, we do expect a smart appearance which is appropriate to the theatre environment; note too that it will be a January night, and probably very cold. It would be unwise to come without warm outerwear. The coach will return to St Mary’s at approximately 23.30; pupils will be able to telephone from the coach on the return journey should there be any significant change to this time, therefore your child is advised to bring their mobile phone.

Parking can be found in the tennis courts. Please do not park anywhere around the roundabout or on the drive as the coaches will be unable to manoeuvre and park.

If any pupil would like to stay in school to eat a packed tea, they should inform their English teacher. Food can be eaten, on this occasion, in the Drama Room. This would also be the time to change out of school uniform. Bags containing uniform may be taken onto the coach and can be safely left there during the performance. Your child may also wish to bring money to purchase souvenirs or refreshments at the theatre.

The RSC has introduced new, strict, guidelines for school groups attending a performance in Stratford. I will be discussing these in more detail with our pupils before we go on the trip, but you should be aware that they will be asked to turn off mobile phones once inside the theatre, not to whisper, talk or eat during the performance, and to be on their very best public behaviour. We have always received compliments on the behaviour of our pupils in the past, and hope to maintain this very high standard.

We are very much looking forward to seeing the performance; it should be an interesting and enjoyable experience. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you need further information or have any general questions about the trip.

Yours faithfully,
