Year 7 Trip to Goodrich Castle

On Monday 8th June and Tuesday 9th June 2015 Year 7 travelled to Goodrich Castle, which is situated to the north of Goodrich village; a key location between the towns of Monmouth and Ross on Wye.

Goodrich Castle is a Norman Medieval Castle built over 500 years ago and now owned by English Heritage. It is well placed on a high rocky sandstone outcrop overlooking the River Wye.

We all had a brilliant time and really enjoyed exploring the castle and meeting Kevin the knight. He gave us a short tour around the castle and told us interesting information about its past and what it was like to live there. He also showed us his very good archery skills which amazed us all! The best place for many of us was the top of the keep, which had beautiful views that stretch out for miles. This provided an ideal place for soldiers to keep a watch out for enemies or intruders that might have tried to attack the castle.

This was a fantastic trip which allowed us to have fun as well as learn lots of facts about the castle. A few of the Year 7 classes are currently working on a project based on castles, so it was really good to have a look around one and see how a castle operated.

Thank you to all of the teachers who organised it and looked after us. I hope they enjoyed themselves as much as the pupils did!
