April 2018

Dear Parent(s)/Carer(s)

I am writing to introduce myself as Head teacher at St. Mary’s and to say what a privilege it is to have the opportunity to lead here.  I am very excited to start and now have the first couple of days under my belt!  Everyone has been incredibly welcoming and I am looking forward greatly to working with you and your children in the coming weeks and months.

I would like to extend my thanks to Mr Shannon and the leadership team for running the school throughout last term.  As you are probably aware, I was keeping in touch with developments at St. Mary’s and Mr Shannon and I met regularly to prepare for my starting in the Summer term.  I am sure that the Ofsted inspection back in January will have been particular highlight for Mr Shannon, especially given that he had only just started the Acting Head role!  The inspection went very well, as you know and it was wonderful to hear the inspectors highlight so many positive features of this school; our challenge now, of course, is to build on this and further improve St. Mary’s.  This is a challenge that I relish and I will be using this Summer term to look closely at all aspects of what we do here in order that our development planning for September and beyond, is focused on all of the right priorities.

I join the school at a crucial time for those of you who have children in our Year 11.  In the short time I will have with them I will be encouraging them to attend as many of the extra revision sessions running after school, as possible and I know I will be able to count on your support at home to ensure they are doing plenty of independent study and revision.  I’m also very conscious of our need to support pupils in Year 11 as this can be a very pressurised time for them.

I am looking forward to meeting some of you at the forthcoming Year 7 Parents’ evening.  I will be available throughout the course of the evening so please do stop and chat to me and I hope the evening proves to be a useful insight into how your sons and daughters have settled into life at St. Mary’s.

St. Mary’s is my second Headship and a chapter in my career that I am very much looking forward to.  Your support and views will be very important in ensuring that I continue the success achieved by Mr Lambert over many years and in order that your children enjoy their time here and are well prepared for the future.

Best wishes
