St Mary’s rowers British champions and set new British record

St Mary’s Y10 boys, James G and Alex H became British champions, winning gold, setting a new 1000m British rowing record in the J14 boys coxed quad at the British Rowing Club Championships 2025.
The new record stands at 3m31s22ms, shaving 18 milliseconds off the previous record held since 2023 by The Windsor Boys School.
In the A final, they lead the pack into the final 250m having powered ahead in a tight race with a photo finish for bronze place. This victory was even more remarkable taking into account the prestigious rowing clubs also in the final - Leeds, Walbrook, Windsor boys sch, Marlow and Durham.
The crew, with boys from multiple schools, trained together for 16 months, dedicating over 8 hours per week to skills and fitness training.
The boys were elated and want to add huge thanks for the time, effort and dedication of coaches Ben, Liam and Giles and all who have supported them at Hereford Rowing Club. They are so grateful for the coaching and opportunities on offer throughout the year.
