Summer Term Update

Dear Parent/Carers

I hope you are all well and enjoying the fine spring weather that we have been experiencing.

We recently had a voluntary mass dedicated to our Patron, Mary and the sun was streaming through the chapel window, reminding us of how beautiful our surroundings are here at St Marys.

The start of our summer term is progressing well at St Mary’s, and our weekly bulletin is now packed with available revision sessions, clubs and fixtures.

Many of our pupils are building up to their GCSE exams and some have already had their speaking assessments in Modern Foreign Languages and practical moderation in PE.  I want to wish them all every success with their forthcoming exams.  They have been working incredibly hard both in and out of school towards their GCSEs and we have been really impressed with their resilience and positivity, especially given all the uncertainty of recent times.

There will continue to be additional revision opportunities available in the coming weeks and I would encourage Y11 to attend wherever possible in order to gain maximum support and guidance.  I would also ask that we keep every member of the year group in our thoughts and prayers in the coming days and weeks.

Our Y9s and Y10s have recently been doing their own end of year exams, and their approach to them has been very positive and bodes well for the future.  Establishing good exam habits and protocols now is very important and will undoubtedly help them this time next year.

Outside of the classroom things are also going well, and at the time of writing our Y7, Y9 and Y11 football teams have both made it to their respective finals to be held at Edgar Street!  This is a fantastic achievement and we wish them well for the big matches.

All of our KS3 pupils have benefited from the ‘Wellbeing Wednesday’ initiatives that have been running at St Mary’s in recent weeks and their feedback about the different activities has been very positive.  Y10 will be the next year group to have a choice of different enrichment activities to help support their wellbeing and we will continue to explore ways and ideas that help us to support our pupils going forward.

Behind the scenes, we have been doing some work to improve our school website and update our prospectus.  The website is such an important vehicle for communication and we hope that our updates will improve your accessibility to key information and news whilst giving current and prospective parents a flavour of life at our school.  I hope you like the design and new features and we anticipate the site going live in the coming days.

Thank you for your ongoing support for all that we do at St Mary’s and I look forward to writing to you again soon to update you on our progress.

Yours faithfully,
