St Mary’s Football Success

St Mary’s Football success

St Mary’s are proud to retain the Wydenbach cup for the most successful football school in the county.  Following competitive leagues involving all schools across the county, St Mary’s qualified for the Y7, Y9 and Y11 school football finals at Edgar Street.

The Y7 final was an exciting game against WX which ended 1-1 after full time. After an incredible 17 penalties from each team, WX finished the winners.  All students involved in the game were a credit to their schools for their competitive, mature and supportive nature.

St Mary’s played John Masefield In the Y9 final where a first half hat-trick from Marco gave St Mary’s the advantage at half time.  John Masefield battled well in the second half, but St Mary’s controlled the end of the match to win 3-2.

The Y11 final is the pinnacle of school football as it is their final year at high school.  St Mary’s faced John Kyrle in a physical and well matched game.  St Mary’s scored first with a speculative shot from Rory but the goal of the match went to Toby for a 25 yard top corner strike.  The match finished 2 – 0 to St Mary’s.

Thank you to all the organisers at Herefordshire Schools FA and Hereford FC for a great season and showcase finals.  Well done to all students who enjoyed representing their school at football this year across the county.
