KS3

In Years 7, 8 and 9 students will undertake a wide ranging course covering the following areas:

  • Number
  • Algebra
  • Ratio, Proportion and Rates of change
  • Geometry and Measures
  • Probability and Statistics

There will be an emphasis on numeracy in Year 7 and 8 to ensure that all students are confident in working with numbers in a variety of situations without a calculator. Problem solving will be a focus for all classes to ensure they gain confidence in this area.

Every student’s progress will be tracked throughout their time at St Mary’s to ensure that they make sustained progress.

Pupils are taught in sets according to ability. Decisions about progression are based on pupils’ understanding and their readiness to progress to the next stage. Those who are not sufficiently fluent are given the chance to consolidate their understanding.
