Extra-Curricular Music

Extra-Curricular Music

There is a busy programme of extra-curricular groups that rehearse weekly throughout the year. The ensembles include:

  • Orchestra
  • Choir
  • String Ensemble
  • Saxophone & Clarinet Ensemble
  • Rockafellas
  • Rock Band

Groups rehearse for fun and to prepare for performances in school and countywide. They always perform in the annual Christmas and Summer Concerts. Many pupils also choose to play/sing in mass. The choir sing at Young Voices in Birmingham annually and many pupils and ensembles compete in Herefordshire Performing Arts Festival.

Other extra-curricular opportunities are provided as they become available. For example in 2023 the whole of year 7 took part in the singing project ‘Rise Up’ which promoted well-being and transition to secondary school. In 2023 we also took part in ‘STARS singing project’ – workshops for those from military backgrounds which culminated in a performance with other schools.

School Production

We run an annual School Production. Auditions for this are held in September for individual parts and a large chorus. Rehearsals are twice a week after school with performances in February, accompanied by a student band.

In 2022 we did School of Rock and it was a huge success! Please see photos below.

Eisteddfod

At the end of the summer term we hold an annual Eisteddfod, one of the highlights of the year for many students! There is a junior day (years 7 & 8) and a senior day (years 9 & 10) where students are able to compete for their house in a number of categories such as instrumental performance, battle of the bands, solo/group dance, dramatic monologue and lip sync! This is always thoroughly enjoyed by the school, with many fantastic and entertaining performances. For those that do not like to perform, each subject also has it’s own competition, where students complete a task within a set theme each year to win points for their house.
