MFL Key Stage 3 French

Year 7

In Year 7 pupils have 5 hours of French lessons over the fortnight. Through careful adaptation of the Dynamo 1 course, we aim to ensure that all pupils make the best possible progress in French given their varied starting points from Key Stage 2.

Dynamo 1, Module 1 – La rentrée

Introducing yourself, describing siblings, describing a classroom, our likes & dislikes, describe yourself & others, free time activities

 

Dynamo 1, Module 2 – En classe

School environment, subjects, uniform, typical school day, learning about a typical French school

Term 2

Dynamo 1, Module 3 – Mon temps libre

Free time activities & sports, weather & seasons, sport in French speaking countries, our likes & dislikes

 

Dynamo 1, Module 4 – Ma vie de famille

Animals, numbers, describing family and where you live, breakfast preferences, learning about Bastille Day

Term 3

Dynamo 1, Module 5 – En ville

Places in a town, where you go at the week-end, inviting someone out, ordering food & drink, making plans, learning about Paris

 

 

Year 8

In Year 8 pupils have 5 hours of French lessons over the fortnight. The course along with careful differentiation ensures that all pupils are ready to start the Foundation GCSE French course in Year 9.

Festivals, celebrations, special days, buying items at a market, talking about New Year and future plans

 

Dynamo 2, Module 1 – Vive les vacances

Holidays and school holiday activities, visiting a theme park, where did you go and how, answering questions

Term 2

Dynamo 2, Module 3 – A loisir

Celebrity, TV programmes, technology, cinema, leisure activities
Exams

 

Dynamo 2, Module 4 – Le monde est petit

Where you live, weather, daily routine, chores at home, moving house

Term 3

Dynamo 2, Module 5 – Le sport en direct

Sports and sporting events, opinions on sports, giving direction to sporting events, illness and injury, interviewing a sports person

 

Year 9

In Year 9 pupils start the Foundation French GCSE course so that all students can experience French at Key Stage 4 level so that they can make a fully informed choice for their options later in the year. We follow the Studio AQA GCSE Foundation course.
