Music

Mrs S. Goldup
Head of Music

Music is at the heart of every Catholic community and this is true of St. Mary’s High School, where music continues to play an important role in the development of our students.

All students receive a one hour music lesson in Key Stage Three and Five hours over two weeks, if opted for, in Key Stage Four. The curriculum has been designed to broaden student’s experiences of music across the world and indeed across the ages, right up to the modern day.

Each module in KS3 includes, performing, composing and listening tasks, as well as giving students the chance to undergo their own independent research. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning, setting themselves individual targets and evaluating their own progress throughout. The curriculum has been created with every student in mind and music making at St. Mary’s has proven to be a fun and rewarding experience for all.

We offer a GCSE only in Music at KS4 to suit the interests and learning style of individual students.
