New to St Mary's

An updated message from Mrs Walton, Head of Year 7, at the end of Term 1.

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we come to the end of our first term at St Mary’s, we are extremely pleased with how involved your child have been in school life and how well they have settled in.

The term started with a ‘Getting to Know you Day’ where the Year 7’s spent time with their form tutors and classmates. The next day involved the annual team-building day when each house competed to win the House Cup. It was a really strong display by Thouret, which saw them earn the first honours of the year. Well done!

Year 7 Mass was a lovely occasion where we were able to meet parents and families and welcome everyone in the St Mary’s community. I was so proud of how confident and articulate those students were who stood up and read during the service.

The numbers at extracurricular clubs has been outstanding, if that be Football, Rugby, Netball or Hockey. Fixtures against other schools have proved successful too. The sporting future really does look bright for this year group.

Our Open Day was another example of how involved Year 7’s are in school life with more than 75% of the year group helping in departments, and even two of the year helping Mr Wetson with his presentation for parents / carers by sharing their accounts of their first half-term at St Mary’s.

We have nominated our first House representatives and I have met with them about how they can make our school even better. I was really impressed with the time and effort they had put into this meeting by canvassing their peer’s ideas before bringing them to me.

I have visited many Year 7 lessons and have been hugely impressed with your child’s efforts and attitude to learning. I look forward to discovering what the remainder of this academic year brings.

Kind regards

Mary Walton

Head of Year 7
